Vanessa Moe is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Vanessa completed her Doctorate of Nursing Degree from the Arizona State University School of Nursing. She completed her Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing from Grand Canyon University. She also earned Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the Arizona State University.
Vanessa has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years. She has extensive experience and knowledge treating adults with chronic mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, mood disorders, bipolar and PTSD. She has experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings and has treated those with serious mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Her well rounded experience provides her with the ability to identify and treat different mental health conditions with evidence-based treatment options. Vanessa provides holistic, client-centered mental health care and works closely with the client to determine the best individualized treatment plan.
Vanessa is passionate about providing mental health care for adults that have been diagnosed with cancer. As a cancer survivor herself, Vanessa has the unique personal experience with the wide range of emotions and feelings that come with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. This allows her to provide compassionate, individualized care for those affects by cancer.
A psychiatric evaluation is a clinical interview that occurs during the first visit with our provider. The evaluation is a comprehensive assessment to discuss your current symptoms, health concerns, and personal health history to establish a diagnosis and determine the best treatment for your symptoms.
Medication plays a crucial role in the treatment of various mental health issues. The right medication can reduce or eliminate symptoms and improve quality of life. If you are prescribed medication after your psychiatric evaluation, your provider will monitor your progress to ensure you are getting symptom relief.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses. It causes feelings of hopelessness, sadness, or lost of interest in daily activities. It negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, depression can be treated. Treatment is individualized to each patient and may require medication and/or counseling.
Anxiety is a mental health disorder characterized by feelings of persistent worry, overthinking, feeling restless, and inability to relax that are difficult to control. Anxiety can interfere with day-to-day activities such as job performance and interpersonal relationships.Treatment for anxiety may include medication and counseling and is individualized for each patient.
Mood disorders are a group of clinical conditions with common features of extreme disturbance of mood. Mood levels swing from severe depression to extreme euphoria (mania). These disorders result in impaired interpersonal, social, and occupational functioning if untreated. Mood stabilizing medications are often the treatment of choice combined with counseling.
Schizophrenia is a disorder that is characterized by significant impairments in the way reality is perceived with changes in behavior related to extreme disorganized thought process, audio/visual hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. These symptoms cause persistent difficulty with memory, attention, and problem solving. Treatment commonly includes medication management.
Follow up appointments with your provider are an important part of treatment and medication management. The appointments allow the client and provider to discuss efficacy of medication, evaluate symptoms, make medication adjustments and to refill medication.
